Our introduction to cruising. We made good choices: a balcony, nearly-all-non-smoking ship (in 2001!). Neither of us had spent much time in Europe (both visited various capitals on business travel) so it was a nice introduction.
The cruise brought us on Renaissance Cruises from Lisbon to Barcelona . We quite liked Renaissance. In fact, after the first success we booked another, more elaborate cruise with them – Singapore to Greece maybe? Alas, after 9/11/2001, travel, especially leisure travel, took a nosedive. They had the nerve go to bankrupt.
Which… wasn’t entirely a bad thing. Stuck with tickets originating in Singapore, a bit traumatized from 9/11, Kathy expertly converted our easy-living cruise into 7 weeks of land-based travel in Southeast Asia. “Peaceful, Buddhist countries”. And, you can read about that… here.
