Introduction
Vancouver: Smitten like a Kitten

You may find this hard to believe, but when you don't work, and you live in Hudson, NH -- well, it can get pretty damn boring. Even when you gallivant off to Southeast Asia for two months to escape the frigid New England winter.

'been thinking about going to cooking school (ahem "to study Culinary Arts") for about six years now -- practically impulsive by my timeline, but I guess it is well-enough thought out. A little of the history is here but the bottom line is, as I write, I'm on a flight to Vancouver, BC -- I'm actually doing it. (Update: week one is over and I lived to tell the tale -- enjoyed it immensely, actually)

Keeping a log (you're lookin' at the start of it) services two purposes: it keeps me "in touch" with those "back home" who I miss, who miss me (ok, maybe) -- and it gives me a chance to collect my thoughts and share them. Its a 21st century version of the diary -- but anybody who cares to can read it. And you don't have to paw through my underwear drawer.

So here you have it. School started on Tuesday 4/12/04, in another country (ok it's just Canada). With several other grown-ups (most of us are 35+) and a handful of "traditional" students.
