Week II, All New
And a new partner, and a new student, and...

Things are looking up. The weekend was even shorter than last (had to take a mandatory food safety class -- turns out its a lot more interesting than expected), but it still took up most of a beautiful day. Went to a Malaysian restaurant for lunch -- it is great fun going to school with [fellow] Foodies. Sunday I met up with a Foodsafe classmate and another student from our class, and we wandered around Vancouver's Chinatown. Eating. Shopping. Eating. Shopping. Its almost like... school!

Monday bright 'n early we start out on Bread Week. Actually it is looking more like "Bread 1 Day and Pastry Crusts 1 Day", but its a great two days, and there'll be more be more down the road. I love making breads and while this was just a taste (pun intended) I enjoyed it thoroughly.

My partner for this week is the "New Kid", John. John is a fellow-escapee from Massachusetts, just a little older than I and with just a little less hair. We get along just fine. He said "gaah-lick" today; it took me a second to shift back to Massachusetts-dialect. Oh, garlic! Sure, no problem. John went to culinary school back when he and I were young and had hair. He went the prestigious Johnson & Wales University. While it has been nearly 3 decades, he still has a certain flair -- and seems to be really enjoying the class.
