Nobody in Vancouver will tell you the winter is "OK", or even "it isn't that bad". Vancouverites will quickly admit... the winter here sucks. So come April, maybe May (I've been here since mid-April), the weather turns bright, the town awakes from its slumbers. Let the Festival season begin! Here're a few of the season's attractions:
And that's just at a glance. It's part of what makes this city magical in the summer. It seems like anytime you go out on the street, something is happening. I had the good fortune to attend all three days of the Folk Festival. This started on a Friday evening with singer song-writer Janis Ian, a favorite from my youth and still vibrant today. Audience ranged from infants to elders, with an amazing quantity of aging hippies like myself; in their tye-dyed shirts and smelling of hemp (cologne, no doubt). A little bit of everything... all at once.
