Two Geeks who retired in 2001 at 45, and undertook their lifelong passions. After finding one another and deciding we could be... together, we both took off to see more the world – visiting some 120+ countries since on our own, all 7 continents, sometimes traveling for free as Lecturers on cruise ships. A lot of things have happened since then — most of the good, some of them not so much. That’s what this site is about.

You might find the site title, "They Deem us Mad" quizzical. It's a quote from Kahlil Gibran: "They deem me mad because I will not sell my days for gold… and I deem them mad because they think my days have a price". Twenty years later, we still haven't traded our days for gold.

Scott. Born in Connecticut, degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, certificates in Web Design, Culinary Arts, Pastry Arts and Asian Culinary. Proud Canadian Citizen since 2016. Career in the computer industry (Digital Equipment), and two Telecom startups (Cascade Communications (which became Ascend, then Lucent Technologies)), and Astralpoint Communications, which... we don't talk about.

Met Kathy at age 30, the Marketing Manager for products Scott was helping to sell. Found her... intriguing.

Kathy. Native of Michigan and Canadian Permanent Resident. Technically an Honours Math graduate, her university training was also in Computer Science. Worked as a lowly COBOL (look it up) programmer in High School, later contributing to the flight management software of the Boeing 737 series. Joined Digital doing marketing for the software development organization where she met and tamed Scott. Hasn't killed him yet.

Met Scott at age 30, the Sales Support guy for products she did the marketing for. Thought he gave good email.
